Torus Insurance Selects RMS Models for Use in Underwriting
Decision-Making
Newark, CA –
July 22, 2008 – Risk Management Solutions (RMS) today announced that specialist industry
start-up Torus Insurance has licensed a comprehensive range of RMS’
catastrophe risk models to assist with its underwriting decision-making.
Torus - a technical lines insurer specializing in large complex risks,
with a particular focus on the energy sector - was launched earlier this
year by a group of senior insurance practitioners with backing from
private equity firm First Reserve Corporation. Rated A- (excellent) by
A.M. Best, Torus will license a global suite of RMS models, including
the industrial facilities, offshore platform, and terrorism scenario
models.
“As a rapidly expanding insurer committed to underpinning its portfolio
decision-making with rigorous analysis, we are working to align
ourselves with the leading technical innovators in the insurance
market,” said David Hope, chief underwriting officer, Torus Insurance.
“RMS’ advanced understanding of hazard and vulnerability, along with the
quality of its local client service, will help us to improve our
underwriting processes, enhance our risk pricing and selection, and
optimize our capital management.”
“Given Torus’ focus on the energy sector and engineered risks, the
company should benefit significantly from our industrial facilities and
offshore catastrophe models,” added Daniel Stander, RMS London market
practice. “We are excited that a sophisticated start-up organization
like Torus has chosen to engage with us from the outset as their primary
source of catastrophe expertise, and we look forward to working in
partnership with them as they grow.”
